Baseball Recap: Sonoma Valley Triumphs

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Sonoma Valley and Piner, and Sonoma Valley kept the tradition alive. The Dragons' pitchers stepped up to hand the Prospectors a 22-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Dragons have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Prospectors, too.

Jack Johnson looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Colin Buckley was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayden Waldrop, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Sonoma Valley's win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Sonoma Valley will square off against Miramonte at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Piner, they will venture away from home to face off against St. Helena at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
