Baseball Game Preview: Dunkirk Marauders vs. Southwestern Trojans

The Dunkirk Marauders will take on the Southwestern Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dunkirk is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Dunkirk made easy work of Salamanca and carried off a 12-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Marauders.

Anthony Cosme made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only two earned runs while striking out eight over 5.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Greg Orcutt, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabe Valentine, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 21 runs the game before, Southwestern was a bit more limited in their match on Saturday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Allegany-Limestone.

Southwestern saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wilson Genareo, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases were Genareo's first of the season. Oscar Harris was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Southwestern's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Dunkirk, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Dunkirk took their win against Southwestern in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-4 score. Do the Marauders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
