Baseball Game Preview: Helix Highlanders vs. Grossmont Foothillers

For the second straight game, Helix will face off against Grossmont. The Highlanders will host the Foothillers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Helix's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Grossmont has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

While Helix's victory against Grossmont wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Highlanders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Foothillers on Thursday. The game was the first time the Highlanders have beaten the Foothillers on their field since April 29, 2022.

Helix got a great performance from Sean Sherrod as he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Jake Johnson was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Isaac Fierro also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Helix is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Grossmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-14.
