Basketball Recap: Florence Comes Up Short

Florence lost against St. Mary back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Florence Huskies were outmatched by the St. Mary's Pirates and fell 82-28. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while the Pirates are ranked 93rd).

Florence's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Hamilton, who posted four points.

Kylie Nail was a one-woman wrecking crew for St. Mary's as she scored 36 points. Leilani Gordon was another key player, putting up 20 points.

Florence has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for St. Mary's, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Florence didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-10 victory against Cripple Creek-Victor on the 8th. As for St. Mary's, they have also already played their next game, a 46-41 win against The Vanguard School on the 7th.
