Baseball Game Preview: Del Valle Cardinals vs. Westlake Chaparrals

Del Valle is 0-10 against Westlake since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Cardinals will head out to face off against the Chaparrals at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Del Valle took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They came out on top against Pflugerville by a score of 7-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

BRANDON MARTINEZ made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Del Valle is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 2-14-1 otherwise. MARTINEZ was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other pitching news, Del Valle got a great performance from JAVIER RODRIGUEZ as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.

MARTINEZ wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was ANDRU ROGRIGUEZ, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits ROGRIGUEZ has posted since back in February. JORDAN GARCIA also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Del Valle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Westlake sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Lake Travis on Friday.

Del Valle's record is now 5-14-1. As for Westlake, their record now sits at 21-4-1.

Del Valle might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Westlake in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
