Softball Recap: Farmville Central Drops Season-High Score on West Craven

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Farmville Central). They were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over the West Craven Eagles on Friday. Considering the Jaguars have won five games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Callie Mitchell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mitchell was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michele Wirth, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Claire Neely, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Farmville Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches.

Farmville Central pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for West Craven, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Looking ahead, Farmville Central will take on Goldsboro at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for West Craven, they will face off against Greene Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a 16-game losing streak.
