Basketball Game Preview: Goddard Rockets vs. Portales Rams

Goddard hasn't had much luck against Portales recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Goddard Rockets will be playing at home against the Portales Rams at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, Goddard lost to Artesia on the road by a 67-48 margin. While losing is never fun, the Rockets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 14th).

The losing side was boosted by Isaiah Mestas, who posted 13 points and four steals. Those four steals gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Castillo, who scored eight points.

Meanwhile, Portales played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Lovington, falling 79-46. The Rams haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Portales' defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Goddard, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.
