Softball Recap: Fern Creek Beats Holy Cross for Their Third Straight Win

Fern Creek waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Holy Cross Cougars. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by exactly two runs.

Skylar Brown made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had over her last six contests. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Lakelyn Maloney was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Carlie Ray also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Fern Creek's win bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Holy Cross, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fern Creek will challenge Whitefield Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.71 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Holy Cross, they will square off against Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
