Baseball Game Preview: Covenant Day Lions vs. Providence Day Chargers

Covenant Day and Providence Day are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. Covenant Day will challenge Providence Day at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Covenant Day has ten straight victories, Providence Day has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Providence Day's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Covenant Day hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Everything went Covenant Day's way against Durham Academy on Saturday as Covenant Day made off with an 11-0 win. With that victory, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Ethan Andujar, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zeb Engstrom, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

Covenant Day hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Providence Day's offense. They came up short against Charlotte Christian on Thursday, falling 11-0.

Covenant Day's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Providence Day, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Covenant Day took their win against Providence Day in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3. Does Covenant Day have another victory up their sleeve, or will Providence Day turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
