Basketball Recap: Whiting Oilers vs. Illiana Christian Vikings

The Whiting Oilers and the Illiana Christian Vikings squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but sadly the Whiting Oilers had to settle for second. They took a 46-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. Whiting has not had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Despite the loss, Whiting still got an impressive performance from Alyssa Quinones, who scored 23 points along with five steals. That was a full 59% of Whiting's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Whiting struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Illiana Christian pulled down 29 offensive rebounds.

Cheyenne DeJong was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 20 rebounds for Illiana Christian. As a matter of fact, that's the most points DeJong has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sienna Eenigenburg, who scored nine points along with two steals.

Whiting's loss dropped their record down to 8-14-1. As for Illiana Christian, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-8.

Whiting does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Illiana Christian will square off against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Bowman Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday.
