Preview: Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals
After six games on the road, Gray Collegiate Academy is heading back home. They and the Cardinal Newman Cardinals will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
After only 15 points in their last matchup, Gray Collegiate Academy made sure to put some points up on the board against Potter's House Christian on Saturday. Gray Collegiate Academy walked away with a 60-52 victory over Potter's House Christian. Given Gray Collegiate Academy's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked seventh in South Carolina, while Potter's House Christian is ranked 187th in Florida), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Braylhan Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Darius Carr, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman entered their tilt with Trinity Collegiate with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Cardinal Newman strolled past Trinity Collegiate with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 54-40.
Gray Collegiate Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 25-6 record this season. As for Cardinal Newman, their victory bumped their record up to 18-14.
Gray Collegiate Academy came up short against Cardinal Newman when the teams last played back in December of 2018, falling 77-65. Thankfully for Gray Collegiate Academy, Chico Carter Jr. (who scored 39 points along with six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
