Softball Recap: 12 Straight Home Wins for Newport

Newport faced Monadnock in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Huskies a 2-0 shutout. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Newport pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Monadnock, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Newport will take on rival St. Thomas Aquinas at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 0.9, the Saints 0.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Monadnock is set to square off against their familiar foe Fall Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
