Baseball Recap: Mountain Range Mustangs vs. Greeley West Spartans

Mountain Range had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 7-13 to make it four. They lost 11-5 to the Greeley West Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 10-9 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.

Noah Espinoza and Sol Gutierrez stepped up to the plate in a big way. Espinoza got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Gutierrez went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one triple. Espinoza is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Maceo Moore also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Greeley West, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-16. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Greeley West's side, Jayden Saenz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Saenz a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Nic Hernandez was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Greeley West's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 3-1 (and 1-15 when he doesn't). Camdon Duplex was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
