Basketball Recap: Halina Gregory Key Part of a Team Effort in Warriors Win

There's no place like home for Waccamaw, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 48-39 win over the Marlboro County Bulldogs on Monday. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered a 64-54 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Waccamaw's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Halina Gregory, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine steals. Waccamaw is 4-2 when Gregory posts five or more steals, but 6-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Miah Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine steals.

Waccamaw smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Marlboro County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jordyn Zimmerman almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Zimmerman also set a new season-high mark in field goal percentage with 57%.

Waccamaw is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season. As for Marlboro County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Waccamaw didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-21 win against Aynor on the 4th. As for Marlboro County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 59-33 defeat against Dillon on the 4th.
