Preview: Somerset Bulldogs vs. Carrizo Springs Wildcats
Somerset is 8-2 against Carrizo Springs since November of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Somerset Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Carrizo Springs Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
While Somerset couldn't quite beat Uvalde on Friday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 49-point defeat they were dealt on Tuesday. Somerset fell just short of Uvalde by a score of 63-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Carrizo Springs has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 54-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Devine on Friday.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ysella Hinojosa, who scored five points along with five rebounds and three blocks. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Adisyn Reyes, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Somerset's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 8-22. As for Carrizo Springs, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 19-11 record this season.
Somerset came up short against Carrizo Springs in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 46-37. Can Somerset avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
