Basketball Recap: Smith Center Takes a Loss

Smith Center managed to keep up with Hoxie until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Smith Center Redmen lost 61-37 to the Hoxie Indians. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Redmen of the 54-50 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Smith Center saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kayln Ifland almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Ifland is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played.

Smith Center's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Hoxie, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.

Smith Center didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-33 defeat against Phillipsburg on the 25th. As for Hoxie, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 48-41 loss against Oakley on the 25th.
