Recap: Greene County Tigers vs. Sipsey Valley Bears
This season hasn't been kind to the Greene County Tigers, who are still winless after their ninth game. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 57-31 walloping at the hands of Sipsey Valley on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Greene County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 440th, while Sipsey Valley is ranked 183rd).
Greene County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Michael Gibson, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Ronald Wilder Jr. who scored nine points along with ten rebounds. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessie Pelt, who scored three points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Greene County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Sipsey Valley found their leader in underclassman Cornelius Brown, who scored 12 points along with three steals. Brown set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Another player making a difference was Colin Warren, who scored ten points.
Greene County's defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-9. As for Sipsey Valley, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-3.
Greene County and American Christian Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sipsey Valley won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against West Blocton at 7:30 p.m. on December 8th. West Blocton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Sipsey Valley likes a good challenge.
