Basketball Recap: Rio Vista Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Tate Conley and Dawson Macklin

It was a Battle of the Birds when Rio Vista duked it out withMeyer on Friday. The Rio Vista Eagles came up short against the Meyer Ravens, falling 75-49. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 938th, while the Ravens are ranked 299th).

Rio Vista's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dawson Macklin, who posted 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals, and Tate Conley, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds. Macklin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ashton Huey, who had six points.

Even though they lost, Rio Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

Rio Vista's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-13. As for Meyer, their victory was their 11th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 26-3.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Valley Mills the next time they take the court. Meyer will head out to face Valley Mills at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Rio Vista will head out to face them at 8:00 p.m. on January 31st.
