Baseball Game Preview: El Camino Wildcats vs. Torrey Pines Falcons

For the second straight game, El Camino will face off against Torrey Pines. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

El Camino fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Torrey Pines on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 6-5. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost three in a row.

Kieren Smith was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of El Camino's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 9-11 when he doesn't).

Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyson Rodriguez, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The win (which was Torrey Pines' eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for El Camino, they now have a losing record of 11-12.
