League recap: After big week, Middletown rising in state rankings

Middletown used a 1-0 record over the past week to move from 173 to 130 in the New York state rankings.

Newburgh Free Academy currently sits at the top of Section 9 Orange County I with a mark of 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the league. Pine Bush is in second place, zero games behind with a 3-0 record in league play.

The Middie Bears' pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing six hits and five walks to lead the league in both categories. Middletown has given up a mere 138 hits on the year, while striking out 97 opposing hitters. Nolan Apfel is the leader in that category with 41 Ks on the season.
