Basketball Game Preview: Lafayette Rams vs. Poquoson Islanders

Lafayette and Poquoson are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Lafayette Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Poquoson Islanders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lafayette is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.3 points per game this season.

Lafayette is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past York 64-21 on Monday. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Falcons are ranked 397th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sarah Lynch continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 31 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was MaKayla Keys, who posted seven points in addition to nine assists and seven steals.

Meanwhile, Poquoson ended up a good deal behind Warhill on Thursday and lost 51-34. The Islanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Lafayette is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.4 points over those games. As for Poquoson, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Lafayette came up short against Poquoson when the teams last played back in January, falling 51-47. Can Lafayette avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
