Baseball Recap: Grosse Pointe North Takes a Loss

Notre Dame Prep hit Grosse Pointe North with a six-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Norsemen came up short against the Fighting Irish, falling 12-1. The Norsemen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Fighting Irish apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Grosse Pointe North saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Lipscomb, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Lipscomb is becoming a predictor of the Norsemen's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 3-19-1 when he doesn't).

Grosse Pointe North has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's still a better percentage than their 5-20-1 record this season. As for Notre Dame Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Grosse Pointe North will be playing at home against Mt. Pleasant at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Oilers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.67 runs per game on average), something the Norsemen will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Notre Dame Prep, they will head out on the road to take on Grosse Pointe South at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Fighting Irish 1.8, the Blue Devils 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
