Baseball Game Preview: Kanab Cowboys vs. Water Canyon Wildcats

Kanab is a perfect 4-0 against Water Canyon since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cowboys will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Kanab has six straight victories, Water Canyon has 19 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Kanab came out on top against Millard on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Cowboys were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Eagles. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Kanab got a great performance from Logan Veater as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Kash Kabonic and Kanon Virostko did most of the damage at the plate: Kabonic got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Virostko went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Those four hits gave Virostko a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Latimer Glover, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.

Kanab was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Water Canyon scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They came up short against Beaver, falling 21-5.

Kanab pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Water Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.

Everything went Kanab's way against Water Canyon when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Kanab made off with a 26-0 win. Do the Cowboys have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
