The Pioneer Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Notre Dame Regents at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Pioneer has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Pioneer came up short against Christopher on Monday, falling 12-5. The Mustangs have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Evie Quinn was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Salles-Cunha, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Notre Dame made sure to put some runs up on the board against El Camino on Friday. The Regents put the hurt on the Colts with a sharp 16-3 victory. Considering the Regents have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Molly Rogove was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Kamille Beals was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Catherine Salas also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Notre Dame hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Camino struck out seven times.
Notre Dame is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Pioneer, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
Pioneer suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Notre Dame in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
