Preview: Coolidge Colts vs. Jackson-Reed Tigers
Coolidge is 1-6 against Jackson-Reed since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Coolidge Colts will head out on the road to square off against the Jackson-Reed Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Coolidge scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They breezed by Cardozo on the road to the tune of 74-6. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 47-0.
Jaylyn Derricott and Josslyn Derricott were among the main playmakers for Coolidge as the former scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Derricott has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tairyn Walker, who scored eight points along with four steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Jackson-Reed gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They claimed a resounding 74-14 victory over Cardozo on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Jackson-Reed who now have three in a row.
Aminyah Muhammed and Kryslynn Stewart were among the main playmakers for Jackson-Reed as the former scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and the latter scored 14 points along with seven steals. Stewart has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Lillian Lacore was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
Coolidge now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Jackson-Reed, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Coolidge have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Jackson-Reed struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Coolidge took their win against Jackson-Reed in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 57-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Coolidge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
