Herbert Hoover is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Sissonville, who was ranked 12th at the time (Herbert Hoover was ranked ninth). The Huskies took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Huskies couldn't push the score so high this time.
Herbert Hoover saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liz Turner, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Princeton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They fell 10-5 to Richwood.
Kira Lusk put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. Lusk was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Savannah Wood was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Halle Wolfe was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Princeton's loss dropped their record down to 5-23. As for Herbert Hoover, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-7.
Princeton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Herbert Hoover hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. It's a different story for Princeton, though, as they've only averaged .194. Will they be able to contain Herbert Hoover's hitters?
