Baseball Recap: Stockdale Comes Up Short

Stockdale might've scored the first runs on Friday, but it was Bullard who claimed the real prize. The Stockdale Mustangs fell just short of the Bullard Knights by a score of 5-4. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Stockdale got a good showing from Salvatore Russo, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Russo posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Brayden Gutierrez was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Hayden Elchlepp, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Stockdale's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Bullard, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Mustangs coming up. As for Bullard, they will venture away from home to challenge Clovis North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
