Baseball Recap: Clayton Victorious

The matchup between Clayton and Tucumcari on Tuesday hardly resembled the 3-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Yellowjackets skirted past the Rattlers 11-10. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Yellowjackets considering their one-run performance the contest before.

The team relied heavily on Max Leal, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Clayton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Deagan Maez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Clayton's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Tucumcari, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Looking ahead, Clayton is taking a road trip to take on Raton at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Yellowjackets surely won't give up without a fight. As for Tucumcari, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Texico at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rattlers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
