Football Game Preview: Baldwyn Bearcats vs. Walnut Wildcats

Baldwyn is a perfect 8-0 against Walnut since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bearcats will challenge the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Baldwyn has three straight victories, Walnut has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

It was a proper cat-fight when Baldwyn challenged Hamilton on Friday. The Bearcats came out on top against the Lions by a score of 38-28. With that win, the Bearcats brought their scoring average up to 26.3 points per game.

Jourdan Crump had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 207 yards and three scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Calvin Price was another key back, rushing for 101 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Baldwyn was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 306 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Baldwyn's defense and their nine sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Chanceton Price and Braxton Stewart, who racked up six sacks between them.

Meanwhile, Walnut came up short against Hatley on Friday and fell 22-14.

Walnut's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Baldwyn, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Everything came up roses for Baldwyn against Walnut in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 39-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bearcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
