Game recap: Byrd does just enough to defeat Ruston

Byrd (Shreveport, La.)'s advantage, which at one point stood at 13 points, dwindled to seven before the final whistle blew on a 16-9 victory over Ruston (La.).

The Yellow Jackets were up 10-3 at the half after taking the lead on a passing touchdown in the second quarter.

Both teams scored six points in the third quarter, so the margin remained at seven entering the fourth.

Shelton Wooley made a difference for the Bearcats. The junior kicked one field goal.



Ruston's lone touchdown came on a run in the third quarter.

Byrd also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 42-14.
