Elgin and Perry are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Comets will take on the Commodores at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Elgin barely beat Upper Scioto Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Comets were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Rams on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won nine in a row.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Perry and Waynesfield-Goshen, and Perry kept the tradition alive. The Commodores never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Commodores have posted against the Tigers since May 2, 2022.
Hunter Scott made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brodey Douce, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Perry: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Wyatt Taviano was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Perry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Perry has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Elgin, their record is now 9-2.
Elgin took their victory against Perry when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
