Basketball Recap: Mesilla Valley Christian School Comes Up Short

Mesilla Valley Christian School has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 50-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mescalero Apache Chiefs on Tuesday. The SonBlazers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chiefs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Mesilla Valley Christian School lost, don't look at Nevaeh Benjamin. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Benjamin has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Katey Black, who posted nine points.

Mesilla Valley Christian School's record is now 13-3. As for Mescalero Apache, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-9.

Mesilla Valley Christian School will face off against Lordsburg at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lordsburg will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Mesilla Valley Christian School surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mescalero Apache, they will take on Cloudcroft at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mescalero Apache has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
