Basketball Game Preview: Denver City Mustangs vs. Dumas Demons

The Denver City Mustangs will be taking part in a tournament against the Dumas Demons at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Denver City is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their match on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 75-15 win over Friona. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 422nd, while the Chieftans are ranked 1217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dumas, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They put the hurt on Andrews with a sharp 62-36 victory on Tuesday.

Dumas is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for Denver City, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.

Denver City suffered a grim 60-36 defeat to Dumas in their previous matchup back in December of 2019. Can Denver City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
