Softball Recap: Homestead Takes a Loss

Homestead dropped their record down to 6-3 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Fort Wayne Northrop Bruins by a score of 6-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 5-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Homestead saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Renier, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Renier has hit this season. Grace Jordan was another, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Fort Wayne Northrop, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Fort Wayne Northrop's side, Kendall Huth spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. Huth has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Baylee Huth was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brilee Day, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Homestead beat Fort Wayne Northrop by a score of 18-6 later that day.
