Belle Vernon and Elizabeth Forward are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Leopards will face off against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Belle Vernon will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Wednesday, Belle Vernon made easy work of Laurel Highlands and carried off a 9-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Lucas Judy made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Seth Tomalski was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Alex Bastedo also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Belle Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Laurel Highlands only posted a batting average of .242.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Forward unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 6-1 to Indiana.
Elizabeth Forward saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cy Herchelroath, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Elizabeth Forward's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Belle Vernon, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Belle Vernon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Elizabeth Forward struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Belle Vernon skirted past Elizabeth Forward 4-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Will the Leopards repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
