Softball Game Preview: Morgantown Mohigans vs. Northmont Thunderbolts

The Morgantown Mohigans will square off against the Northmont Thunderbolts at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Morgantown has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Morgantown is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of Chardon by a score of 12-10 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mohigans have suffered since March 20, 2024.

MADISON WISMAN spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, GRACE ROBINSON and GIATTA IQUINTO did some serious damage despite the final result: ROBINSON got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one double, while IQUINTO went 1-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That double marked the first that ROBINSON hit this season. BETH ROBINSON was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Northmont kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They came up short against Chardon, falling 14-3.

Morgantown now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Northmont, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

Morgantown couldn't quite get it done against Northmont in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can Morgantown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
