Softball Game Preview: Maumee Panthers vs. Southview Cougars

The Maumee Panthers will face off against the Southview Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southview took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Maumee, who comes in off a win.

If Maumee beats Southview with 15 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over Rossford on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Hannah Ruiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Maumee got a massive performance out of Julia Coutcher, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Reign Hurt, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Meanwhile, Southview and Northview faced off in a cross-town battle on Monday. The Cougars wound up with the same score they had in their last game (3-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Southview's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Maumee, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Maumee skirted past Southview 3-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
