Basketball Recap: Burney Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from James Fields and Cort Covert

Burney was the 53-43 winner over CORE Butte when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Burney Raiders took a 42-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the CORE Butte Lynx on Tuesday. The Raiders just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Cort Covert and James Fields certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Covert went 6 for 14 en route to 15 points and four blocks, while Fields posted ten points in addition to five boards and four blocks. Those four blocks gave Covert a new career-high.

Burney's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for CORE Butte, the win snapped their losing streak at 23 games dating back to last season and leaves them with a 1-13 record.

Burney has already played their next game (against Chester), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. CORE Butte and Paradise Adventist Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. The timing is sure in Paradise Adventist Academy's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while CORE Butte has been banged up by 12 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
