Softball Recap: Douglas Takes a Loss

Douglas extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 6-10. They lost 12-2 to the South Umpqua Lancers. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by exactly ten runs.

As for South Umpqua, the win (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 22-2. Considering they have won 18 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For South Umpqua's part, Jasmine Morales made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Morales has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two hits in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, South Umpqua let Danika Richardson and Regan Ireland run wild. Richardson went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Ireland went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave Ireland a new career-high. Kylee Pachao was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

While Douglas had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
