Basketball Recap: Spearfish Takes a Loss

After flying high against Hot Springs on Tuesday, Spearfish came back down to earth. The Spartans came up short against the Mahpiya Luta Crusaders on Thursday, falling 43-18. The Spartans have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Ashlan Carlow-Blount continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mahpiya Luta, putting up eight points along with 12 rebounds and five assists. Carlow-Blount is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 36 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Shania Ferguson, who posted 11 points.

Spearfish's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Mahpiya Luta, the win keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Spearfish will face off against St. Thomas More at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mahpiya Luta, they will square off against Belle Fourche at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
