Softball Game Preview: Poynette Pumas vs. River Valley Blackhawks

The Poynette Pumas will venture away from home to face off against the River Valley Blackhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Poynette has eight straight victories, River Valley has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

River Valley's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Poynette hadn't allowed a single run the last five times they've hit the field. Everything went the Pumas' way against Marshall on Thursday as they made off with a 12-0 win. The Pumas might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, River Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Richland Center on Thursday and fell 6-5.

Poynette pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for River Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

Poynette took their victory against River Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pumas since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
