Basketball Recap: Rocky Mountain Prep SMART Takes a Loss

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART lost against Denver West back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Rocky Mountain Prep SMART Ocelotls were beaten by the Denver West Cowboys 101-42. While losing is never fun, the Ocelotls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while the Cowboys are ranked 39th).

When it comes to explaining why Rocky Mountain Prep SMART lost, don't look at Xavier Galvan. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 16 en route to 30 points and five boards. With that strong performance, Galvan is now averaging an impressive 15.9 points per game.

Jeremiah Parker continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Denver West, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Parker has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ari Cowens, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 19 points.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART dropped their record down to 3-12 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Denver West, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
