Preview: Pickering Red Devils vs. Avoyelles Mustangs
The Pickering Red Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Avoyelles Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pickering comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last nine games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Pickering fell victim to South Beauregard's stalwart defense last Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 49-0 defeat at the hands of the Knights.
Meanwhile, Avoyelles owes their defense a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. Everything went their way against Rosepine as Avoyelles made off with a 22-0 victory. The win was just what Avoyelles needed coming off of a 50-8 loss in their prior match.
Avoyelles can attribute much of their success to Decareyn Sampson, who rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns.
Pickering's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 1.2 points per game. As for Avoyelles, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-7.
Pickering was taken down by Avoyelles 88-6 when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Can Pickering avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
