Baseball Recap: Clarkrange Comes Up Short

Clarkrange extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 7-8. They lost 18-0 to the York Institute Dragons. The game marked the first time this year in which the Buffaloes were not able to get on the board.

As for York Institute, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

For York Institute's part, Sullivan Harris and Garrison Garrett were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Harris pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Garrett pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Harris has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Harris went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Garrett went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, York Institute let Brody Choate and David Stewart run wild. Choate went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Stewart went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Choate has become a key player for York Institute: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Kaden Mundy was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Clarkrange is taking a road trip to challenge Pickett County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for York Institute, they will welcome Cannon County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
