North Salinas triumphant thanks to a strong effort from Jaiden Gomez

Recap: North Salinas Vikings vs. Monte Vista Christian Mustangs

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the North Salinas Vikings ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past Monte Vista Christian 63-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Jaiden Gomez had an outrageously good game as he scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of David Jauregui, who scored 11 points.

Monte Vista Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angel Martinez, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Jack Ryan was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Monte Vista Christian were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Salinas only racked up nine assists.

The win made it two in a row for North Salinas and bumps their season record up to 8-13. As for Monte Vista Christian, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-5.

North Salinas will head out on the road to face off against Gonzales at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully North Salinas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday. As for Monte Vista Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge Rancho San Juan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rancho San Juan will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Monte Vista Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
