Basketball Game Preview: Wakefield School Fighting Owls vs. Highland Hawks

Wakefield School hasn't had much luck against Highland recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wakefield School Fighting Owls will challenge the Highland Hawks at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Wakefield School is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Randolph-Macon Academy: they outscored them in every quarter. Wakefield School blew past Randolph-Macon Academy 43-23 on Tuesday.

Wakefield School's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Joelle Domfeh, who posted 12 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. Meira Barnaby was another key player, putting up 15 points along with eight boards and four steals.

Meanwhile, Highland waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They claimed a resounding 43-15 win over Foxcroft. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Foxcroft are ranked 296th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wakefield School's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 15.7 points over those games. As for Highland, their win bumped their record up to 19-4.

Wakefield School took a serious blow against Highland in their previous meeting back in January, falling 49-22. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Wakefield School was down 33-5.
