Baseball Game Preview: Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers vs. Iona Prep Gaels

Mt. St. Michael Academy is 0-9 against Iona Prep since May of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Mountaineers are taking a road trip to take on the Gaels at 4:15 p.m. Neither Mt. St. Michael Academy nor Iona Prep posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Last Thursday, Mt. St. Michael Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Kennedy Catholic and fell 2-1.

Meanwhile, Iona Prep faced Fordham Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Gaels fell just short of the Rams by a score of 3-2. The Gaels' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Iona Prep saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Devin Diaz, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Jake Rodrigues also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Iona Prep's loss dropped their record down to 7-4-1. As for Mt. St. Michael Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Mt. St. Michael Academy suffered a grim 20-1 defeat to Iona Prep in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Mountaineers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
