Baseball Game Preview: Piedmont Highlanders vs. Alameda Hornets

The Piedmont Highlanders will head out on the road to challenge the Alameda Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Piedmont's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Alameda's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Piedmont took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Head-Royce, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Highlanders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Jayhawks on Wednesday.

Enzo Ong looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Markos Lagios, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Jordan Vo also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Alameda suffered their biggest loss since February 28th on Wednesday. They lost 9-3 to Encinal.

Piedmont is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Alameda, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.
