Volleyball Recap: Ashley Chen Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Monta Vista + How To Watch

Milpitas hadn't done well against Monta Vista recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Trojans walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Matadors. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Matadors back in September, they had to take a 3-0 loss.

While Milpitas might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Monta Vista scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-22, 27-25, 21-25, 25-18.

Milpitas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ashley Chen led the charge by getting 17 digs and four aces. Chen has been hot, having also posted 12 or more assists the last five times she's played. Hyacinth Simmons was another key player, getting 20 assists and seven digs.

Despite the defeat, Monta Vista saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Srahi Bobbili had 28 digs and seven assists.

Milpitas has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Monta Vista, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 18-10.

Milpitas has already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Hill on the 11th. As for Monta Vista, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-2 loss against Homestead on the 14th.
