Basketball Recap: Cathedral Comes Up Short

Cathedral was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 68-44 to the Hillcrest Christian Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Green Wave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while the Cougars are ranked 119th).

Hillcrest Christian had a senior duo take command as Jordan Johnson dropped a double-double on 24 points and 19 boards and Jaivyn Carter dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. Those 19 rebounds gave Johnson a new career-high. Darius Barnes was another key player, putting up nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Cathedral's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Hillcrest Christian, they pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Cathedral will challenge Bowling Green at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Hillcrest Christian, they will welcome River Oaks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
